assignment

oh wait! maybe i don't have to change the background. i could just make the timer go faster. no it wouldn't be much of a challenge then because the person could just memorise the maze.
hmmm... maybe another idea i could do is a shooting game where something bad pops up and you have to shoot it but there are also good somethings and you can't shoot them and if you do then you lose a life. it could work.
or i could do a game like plummit on not doppler.com. plummit is where there are blocks moving up the screen and you are a person on those blocks and you can't touch the top of the screen so you have to run to jump through the gaps in the blocks and the blocks keep moving faster and faster.

scratch- key moves
eys you put in the following scripts then play around with your sprite. the sprite waits until a certain arrow key is pressed then it points in the direction of the key and moves 10 steps. you can just duplicate the same code and select the correct key and direction.

scratch- gliding
to glide you get the 'when green flag clicked' button to start off. then you get the 'glide whatever seconds to X:whatever Y:whatever' button from the motions section. you then click the boxes next to the X position and Y position at the bottom of the motion section and some rectangles will appear in the screen where your sprite is. you drag your sprite to where you want it to glide to and take note of the coordinates of the X and Y. in the 'glide' button you type the coordinates of the X and Y of where you want to glide to. in the 'glide' button you also type how many seconds you w
ant it to take to get to the spot where you're gliding to.

answers to sheet
2)Some of the features of the new task bar include:
-mouse over one program and all windows associated with it appear in preview
-hover over the preview to show full-sized preview or click on it to bring it to the front
-large, easy to see icons
3) Jump lists make recently opened documents easy to get to. right or left click and drag on any program icon pinned to the taskbar to see a list of files that you've recently used in that program.
4) To have two windows working side by side simultaneously, drag one window to the left edge and the other window to the right edge of the top of the screen.
5) The nine multi-touch gestures that windows 7 uses include:
-tap and double tap. these are what the click and double click do
-panning with interia. this is for scrolling and you just drag any part of the page up or down with one or more fingers
-selection/drag. this is like mouse drag and selection, you touch and slide your finger on the screen
-press and tap with second finger. this is like right click
-zoom. pinch two fingers together or apart to zoom in or out
-rotate. touch two spots on a digital photo and twist to rotate it
-two finger tap. tapping with two fingers zooms in about the center of the gesture
-press and hold. hold your finger on the screen for a moment and release after the animation to get a right click
-flicks. flick left or right to navigate back and forward in a browser and other apps
6) XP mode is a free add-on for windows 7 that creates a virtual XP environment in which you can run older programs
7) Windows 7 doesn't have autorun for external hard drives and USBs and this increases the security as this kills off a risky vector for malware infections
8) The minimum requirements include a 1 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB hard-disk space and direct X 9 graphics device.
9) Some observations made on the performance include:
-it feels the fastest but sometimes it's actually the slowest
-it's fastest to shut down
-tied with XP in iTunes encoding
-slowest to boot up cold by a second
-slower in it's micrsoft office performance
-feels fastest in launching programes, dragging icons/files/folders around and opening the control panel

'computers never do what you want them to do' task
PSEUDOCODE: a type of computer language that is used by the programmer to outline the algorithm before it's translated into code
MACHINE LANGUAGE: the only language a computer can read which consists of a collection of binary digits that the computer reads and interprets.
HIGH LEVEL COMPUTER LANGUAGE: an advanced computer programming language that isn't limited to the type of computer or for one specific job and is easily understood
FLOWCHART: it visually shows the sequence of instructions in a program with different symbols used to draw it
the beginning and ending symbols are normally ovals or rounded rectangles usually containing the word 'start' or 'end'
the decision making symbol is a diamond which normally have a 'yes or no' question in it
the action or process symbol is a rectangle with the command in it (eg. save changes)
here are the steps to opening a door: walk towards the door and stop one step away facing the door, raise arm and grip doorknob, turn doorknob anticlockwise and push open.

extra things i can type about
for handheld devices type about how the CPU is slow because the fast ones are power hungry and heat up a lot. type about the RAM, different user-interfaces (touch screen, mini keyboard or normal keys), LCD display and resolution.
for social networking type about how you exchange information setup with a network of friends any time any where because it's now on mobiles and how it makes it easier for robbers to rob you because they know that you're away.

CPU or microprocessor
The speed of the CPU has increased dramatically. in 1974 the clock speed was 2 MHz which is 2 million cycles per second and in 2004 the clock speed increased to 3.6 GHz which is 3.6 billion cycles per second.
according to dictionary.com MIP's measure the computer and is 1 million instructoins per second.
a duel core processor is a CPU that has 2 execution cores with one chip. multitasking is when you have different programmes running at the same time. a duel core processor is really good for multitasking because each of the execution cores are independent so the operating system has enough resources to handle the different tasks.
the Intel Atom Processor uses less power, is really small but it allows a "big internet experience" which is good for people who use their mobile phones to go on the internet unlike the traditional way of using the computer.

Research on Pageflakes

some positives about pageflakes are that both Laura and I are able to login on seperate computers, we can type information up easily, it's free, it's very straight forward, there are a large number of flakes we can use to personalise and present the information and we can create different pages to organise and store the different types of information we are presenting. some things that are negative about the page is that we can't figure out how to put videos on it, we can't put the flakes anywhere we want on the page (it's all in columns and rows) and if you use the blog flake it only shows part of the information and you have to click on a button to be able to read all of the information.
according to the website a pagecast is publishing your page flake so others can see it and you can show everyone or just a private group.
we could use the pagecast in the context of this project to inform everybody and sir about the topics we are going to research.

Research for Protopage
a widget is an application that you put on your page to make it personalised. the purpose of the tabs is to separate the different bits of information and widgets from each other. to create and edit new tabs is really easy, even i can do it without asking anyone how to do it.
Protopage could be used to help with our project because we could create a new tab for each topic and write the information in sticky notes. we are able to add photos but i haven't figured out how to add video or audio yet.
here is a screen shot:

Some positives are that it's free, there are tabs that allow us to organise the information in a menu type thing, there are different ways to type up the information, it's personalised easily, we can change the title of the tabs and sticky notes and you can add text underneath pictures to explain what it is. some negatives are that i can't figure out how to add video and when Laura and i tried to see if we can both log in at the same time Laura couldn't get on and when i tried at home i also couldn't get on so i think we have to be logged onto the computer at school using my username and password to work on the page (although I'm not positive).

RSS...
You can add a whole heap of stuff to a feed and each feed contains a list of items (an index) and each one is identified by a link to the content of your website. Most RSS feeds include a title for the link and a description of the content.
RSS feeds keep your audience totally updated without having to actually go to your site, for example, in a software company's website people can miss out on important tech articles or updates if they forget to check it but by feeding it to them they won't miss out.
Feeds are different from email because it's more like a link to your website but it also has a description to get people to want to read it.
Reading feeds is similar to using a radio, the station sends out programmes and you use the radio to pick it up at home. With RSS you send out your content in a RSS feed and subscribers use a newsreader to read it.
You can find the feeds you want to subscribe to by setting you reader with your preferences and it will collect the feeds you're interested in every time there is an update.

what are storyboards?
2. a storyboard acts as a visual script for lighting, camera angles and most importantly the narrative development or in other words, how the story goes
3.if a storyboard isn't with a script then it's harder to picture how the film will flow and because it's in written form then you could misinterpret the descriptions and film it completely wrong
4.the main type of storyboard is the Production Storyboard
5.the painting storyboard is a sequence of images to show the visual style of what you're filming
6.TV storyboards are filmed and produced by advertising agencies for their clients
7.the narrative elements of the story in the film are the characters, settings, conflicts and the resolution.
8-10.to make a film more interesting the people making it break it into different parts and these parts are called moments. the moments are categorised as atmospheric, narrative and critical. this is an important storyboarding tool because not all events are critical but are needed to help with the narrative or atmosphere
11.an establishing shot is used to establish the setting or atmosphere of the scene, it's all in the name
12.a mid shot is used to focus on a person because it's from head to toe
13.a low angle shot is shot lower than eye level and makes the subject look bigger and more powerful while a high angle shot is shot higher than eye level and makes the subject look smaller
14.to start a storyboard you need to come up with a narrative
15. next you break up the plot into moments then scenes then shots
16. next you pencil in the scenes ans shots
17.when you analyse it you look for mise en scene, montage or camera angles that will help to enhance the scene
18.when you 'flesh out the scene' you add digital photos, clip art or drawings and add more detail to the shot description

Okay well... i saved the video as dial up and IDSN. they both are equally bad and i can't spot a real difference between them. theoretically IDSN should be better because it's saved as 131Kb and dial up is saved as 107Kb but that's not much of a difference either so we can't really tell the difference.

My Movie With Audio
i had to got to google images and save the pictures in my s drive but i was saving them on my USB because that's where i save everything. so i couldn't get my pictures to show while the movie was playing so with LAura's advice i saved it on my s drive. to get the pictures on movie maker you just go to import pictures and import them. you drag the pictures to the story board squares and there we go you have your images for your so called movie. you then have to impoirt your audio and then you drag it to the timeline. to adjust how long you want the pictures to show for you drag the side of the picture left or right depending on how long it'd supposed to show for. to adjust how much of the audio you want to play, you drag the side of the audio and it trims the parts you don't want. to do the adjusting i did it in the timeline form. it's all really straight forward because even i could use it and i've only ever used it once.

Intro To Video
the screen then you might see the following illustration 8. there are 3 different TV standards around the world and the standard you receive depends on the country you're living in. the USA, Canada, Japan, Korea and Mexico use the format NTSC and the frame rate is 29.97 frames/sec. Australia, China, most of Europe and South America use the format PAL and the frame rate is 25 frames/sec. France, the Middle East and most of Africa use the format SECAM and the frame rate is 25 frames/sec. sooo basically the main difference is the quality of the resolution and the frame rate.
9. us Aussies use the format PAL which may i remind you is a frame rate of 25 frames/sec.
10. if you're recording with an analog camcorder then you will need a video capture card to digitalize it.
11. we won't need a video capture card for the video we are making at school because it will already be digital to begin with.
12. an IEEE 1394 is the connection between your digital camcorder and your computer when you feed the video onto the computer after shooting it.
13. digital video cameras use video compression because when it's uncompressed it's an enormous amount of data and when viewing/editing it, it would slow down your computer a lot.
14. a codec handles the compression and decompression of video. they can be found in hardware like capture cards or in software.
15. generation loss is when the quality gets worse and worse as you copy or transfer. sir explained it this way : if you photocopy something it's not quite as good quality as the original and if you photocopy that photocopy then the quality will be even worse and if you keep photocopying every photocopy then you will probably end up with a big blob that doesn't really look like anything. the way i explained it, it probably doesn't make sense but anyways.....

the frames are also supposed to be png when you load it onto gimp because apparently it doesn't load or something when it's png but because im soooooo special it worked for me.
4th blog for assignment
i decided to make him turn into a super pig and fly into the wall. i've got around 80-90 frames and sir said that we need a minimum of 50 frames for the minimum 5 seconds which is fine by me.
i love using these graphics tablets because i reckon it's easier to use especially for the details.
i thought my computer died on me at the beginning of the lesson but the screen and keyboard cables had just come out. it was pretty funny afterwards.

well i did a rough animation using inkscape but i didn't know how to turn it into an animation using gimp but then sir told us that it was on general help so I'm alright now.
my animation is going to be a pig who walks onto the screen tries to bend over to pick up a ball but he realises that he can't reach it and gets angry at himself.
during the development of the frames i saved it as png and i still saved it as png after i exported it.
well I'm off to actually make my animation right now. bye...

8 of clubs task

Monday, February 16, 2009
i was going to use gimp but it took me like 10 minutes to figure out how to get a blank page so i gave up on that. now i have to do paint which is really boring but at least i know how to use it. below is an image of paint and i am going to explain what each tool does.
i had sooooo much trouble getting the picture on it took me around 15 minutes and Michelle comes and does it in like 2 seconds. life saver! any ways back to the task.
the dotted rectangle on the top right corner is called 'select'. you can move a square of an original image around the page or delete it. (im not sure how to explain it)
the dotted star next to the rectangle is called 'free-form select'. it's like select but instead of moving a square you can move a random shape but while you're drawing the shape you have to keep the mouse button down.
the yellow rectangle below it is the 'eraser'. it's what you use when you want to rub something out. like the name suggests. (it's kinda obvious)
the thing to the right of it is called 'fill with colour'. if you have a shape without any gaps in the outline you can fill it with a certain colour with one click of the mouse. it's really simple.
the mini magnifying glass symbol is called 'magnifier'. it's pretty obvious because it zooms in and out.
next to the magnifier is a symbol that looks like an eye dropper but it's actually called 'pick colour'. if you click on a certain colour the 'fill with colour' changes automatically to that colour you clicked on. (i never knew what it did before this task)
below it is a pencil and you guessed it, it's called a 'pencil'. WOW! anyways you can draw lines with this but it's not as cool as the 'brush' but i'll explain the 'brush' later.
next to the pencil is the 'brush'. it's nearly the same as the pencil but you can change the thickness of the lines and whether the line is a circle or a square. however like the pencil you can change the colour of the lines.
below the 'brush' is a picture of a 'A' and this is called 'text'. you can draw a square or rectangle and then type some text in side it.
next to it is a picture of a spray can but it's called 'airbrush'. it's kinda like a spray can because the lines can be faint but if you leave the mouse in the exact same position it makes it solid. (arghhh... this is so hard to explain but im sure you know what im talking about, this is paint im typeing about here.)
below it is a diagonal line which is called 'line'. this tool helps you to draw a straight line which you change the colour of and the thickness. just a little obvious.
next to it is a squiggly line called 'curve'. it's basically the same as 'line' but you can curve it. it really annoys me when you don't want it to curve but it does anyway. has that ever happened to you because it REALLY annoys me.
there are 4 more random, useless tools that i can't be bothered to explain because no one even uses them and i doubt anyone wants to keep reading my boring blog. so im off to do my stupid english homework. YAY! i just love english, not. bye...

Well here are some definitions of art:
- the products of human creativity
- the creation of beautiful or significant things
i don't really know if there are any advantages to using digital paint and draw programmes. some people can't draw so they probably think that it's easier to use these programmes because of the pre-programmed icons/pictures that you can alter with a click of a button. i think that to us people who totally suck at using the computer even for basic stuff, that the programmes are frustrating because you can't get the computer to do the things you want it to do. (i tend to just give up and do it by hand because it's easier). when you use the paint and draw programmes it's easier to erase any mistakes you make but if you are using paint and canvas you can't just erase it because it's almost, maybe, basically permanent. wait that's an advantage so i guess that there is an advantage.
here are some cool artworks i found on google and sticking with the theme of digital they are all digital.

to be a digital artist you don't really need any special skills just creativity and some good software. the hardest part is learning how to use the software. some people believe that graphic programmes are destroying traditional art skills, because by using graphics software use don't need any painting or sketching skills. people who use these graphics softwares are saying that this is another case of technophobia.
Some artists just draw it by hand and scan it onto thier computer to digitalise.
people who are digital artists sometimes take classes in painting and sketching to improve thier artistic skills (whatever there are these days). For example,
a man named Joel Mongeon, who is a digital artist, wanted to "hone" (improve) his skills so he took up some painting and sketching classes at his university.

- digital videos
- digital audio
- Digital phone calls
- digital photoes
- digital televison
The number system digital data is based on is the binary numeral system and the numbers used in this system are 1 and 0. The binary numeral system is a way to write lot's of different numbers using only 2 digits. Here are some examples:
1. 1
2. 10
3. 11
4. 100
5. 101
A bit is the smallest unit of information a computer can use. A group of 8 bits is called a byte.
A sampling rate is also called a sample rate. It's typically expressed in samples per second, the rate at which samples of an analog signal are taken to be converted into digital form. For example, a PC's sound card will sample a recieved analog signal, like through a microphone, and digitalise it for the computer. The higher the sampling rate the better the reproduction.
Colour depth is how many colours the monitor can display. The higher the colour depth (or the greater number of colours shown) the better the image quality will be because it will look more realistic and detailed.
This picture shows the difference in colour depth.
The sampling rate only affects video not still media (like photos) because still media doesn't involve sound. It's just like that colour depth doesn't affect the music you listen to because there's no pictures involved in music.
