my finished game...

well for all those who are willing to play my game you are able to find it on the W drive on the school computer. you then go to 9ist and then T4 project. i've called it cat in the maze and it's also got my name. if you can't get to a school computer come and get the game off my USB. once you have played my game please do the polls on my blog for some feedback. i would really appreciate it. my blog url is: http://firedhippo.blogspot.com/

assignment

well at the moment i have the basics for the maze idea however at the moment i can't get the backgrond to change when the cat reaches the end and it's really annoying me. also i can't figure out how to change the background when the timer runs out. it could get hard to make a more challenging maze as the screen isn't very large so the sprite would have to be tiny. i'm in a pickle here but i don't have another idea so i WILL figure these problems out. here is a picture of the stage so far.
oh wait! maybe i don't have to change the background. i could just make the timer go faster. no it wouldn't be much of a challenge then because the person could just memorise the maze.
hmmm... maybe another idea i could do is a shooting game where something bad pops up and you have to shoot it but there are also good somethings and you can't shoot them and if you do then you lose a life. it could work.
or i could do a game like plummit on not doppler.com. plummit is where there are blocks moving up the screen and you are a person on those blocks and you can't touch the top of the screen so you have to run to jump through the gaps in the blocks and the blocks keep moving faster and faster.

scratch- suprise button

a good sprite for this tutorial is drum 1 from the things folder. change the name of the sprite to something like 'drum' in the grey rectangle above the scripts, costumes and sounds tabs. copy the below picture.

idea for assignment

i've been procrastinating a lot by trying to figure out what idea i should use for my assignment and the one i am using is a maze game. you have to use the arrow keys to guide a cat through a maze.

helpful tips

you can duplicate a code into another sprite just by dragging it onto the picture of the sprite underneath the screen.
you can change the background by clicking stage next to the picture of hte sprite underneath the screen and the nedit or import.
if you don't want the sprite to rotate when it hits the edge of the screen you click the middle button next to the picture of the sprite on top of the tabs.

scratch- keep score

it gets kinda complicated with all the different buttons but its fun to watch. with the orange button (variables) you go to the variables button and select 'make a variable' and you call it score. then re-create this picture and watch the fun unfold.

scratch- interactive whirl

a good sprite for this one is squirrel 1. in the purple button click the drop down menu and get whirl then get the mouse X thing from sensing. this is really cool.

scratch- say something

above the script, costumes and sounds tabs there is a rectangle with sprite 1 in it, you want to change that by giving your sprite a name. then go to control and there will be a button with 'when whatever the name is clicked' use that to re-create the following picture. click your sprite and watch it say something.

scratch- follow the mouse

well it's very simple and fun to play with, just re-create the following picture. it works best with cat 2.

scratch- move to a beat

very simple to do, just create the following picture with a dancing sprite.

scratch- key moves

well to make your sprite move with the keys you put in the following scripts then play around with your sprite. the sprite waits until a certain arrow key is pressed then it points in the direction of the key and moves 10 steps. you can just duplicate the same code and select the correct key and direction.

scratch challenge #4

the challenge was to make the sprite seem like it was moving towards you using the change size thingy. you go to costumes and using the edit button you make a copy which is bigger than the 1st and make another copy which is bigger than the 2nd and so on. then you get the other costume (technically it's another sprite) and do the same with the edit button. you then put the buttons together in the scripts part like the following picture.

scratch challenge #3

the challenge was to make an illusion of the sprite moving by switching from one costume to another. here is the picture of the script:

scratch challenge #2

i still don't have anything to do so i went and did challenge #2. did you know that if you right click on the script you can duplicate it, it makes it so much easier.

scratch challenge #1

yeah, i know i'm supposed to do all the tutorials before i do the challenges but since you need to be at school to access the V drive and i have nothing better to do i decided to attempt one of the challenges.
the challenge was to make the sprite change directions when it hit the edge of the screen. i hope the picture explains what i did because when i try to explain it in words i end up confusing myself.

scratch- gliding

i kinda taught myself this witout the tutorial while mucking around so i thought 'well why not blog it so i don't have to do it later' so here is what i found out.
to glide you get the 'when green flag clicked' button to start off. then you get the 'glide whatever seconds to X:whatever Y:whatever' button from the motions section. you then click the boxes next to the X position and Y position at the bottom of the motion section and some rectangles will appear in the screen where your sprite is. you drag your sprite to where you want it to glide to and take note of the coordinates of the X and Y. in the 'glide' button you type the coordinates of the X and Y of where you want to glide to. in the 'glide' button you also type how many seconds you want it to take to get to the spot where you're gliding to.

scratch-change colour

to change the colour get a 'when space key pressed' button from control and add a 'change colour effect by 25' from looks and press the space bar and your sprite magically changes colour.

scratch-animate it

to animate your sprite you click on the costumes tab and copy your sprite and edit it and press okay. then you go back to the scripts tab and get the button 'when green flag pressed' and then add a 'forever' button. go to the looks and get a 'switch to costume' button and select the altered costume. get a 'wait 1 second' button and then a 'switch to costume' button but select a different costume and just keep repeating this until you run out of costumes. you press the green flag to watch your sprite become animated.

answers to sheet

1) Windows 7 is avaliable in starter, home premium, professional, ultimate, OEM and enterprise
2)Some of the features of the new task bar include:
-mouse over one program and all windows associated with it appear in preview
-hover over the preview to show full-sized preview or click on it to bring it to the front
-large, easy to see icons
3) Jump lists make recently opened documents easy to get to. right or left click and drag on any program icon pinned to the taskbar to see a list of files that you've recently used in that program.
4) To have two windows working side by side simultaneously, drag one window to the left edge and the other window to the right edge of the top of the screen.
5) The nine multi-touch gestures that windows 7 uses include:
-tap and double tap. these are what the click and double click do
-panning with interia. this is for scrolling and you just drag any part of the page up or down with one or more fingers
-selection/drag. this is like mouse drag and selection, you touch and slide your finger on the screen
-press and tap with second finger. this is like right click
-zoom. pinch two fingers together or apart to zoom in or out
-rotate. touch two spots on a digital photo and twist to rotate it
-two finger tap. tapping with two fingers zooms in about the center of the gesture
-press and hold. hold your finger on the screen for a moment and release after the animation to get a right click
-flicks. flick left or right to navigate back and forward in a browser and other apps
6) XP mode is a free add-on for windows 7 that creates a virtual XP environment in which you can run older programs
7) Windows 7 doesn't have autorun for external hard drives and USBs and this increases the security as this kills off a risky vector for malware infections
8) The minimum requirements include a 1 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB hard-disk space and direct X 9 graphics device.
9) Some observations made on the performance include:
-it feels the fastest but sometimes it's actually the slowest
-it's fastest to shut down
-tied with XP in iTunes encoding
-slowest to boot up cold by a second
-slower in it's micrsoft office performance
-feels fastest in launching programes, dragging icons/files/folders around and opening the control panel

'computers never do what you want them to do' task

ALGORITHMS: a logical sequence of steps for solving a problem (often written out in a flow chart) that can be translated into a computer program
PSEUDOCODE: a type of computer language that is used by the programmer to outline the algorithm before it's translated into code
MACHINE LANGUAGE: the only language a computer can read which consists of a collection of binary digits that the computer reads and interprets.
HIGH LEVEL COMPUTER LANGUAGE: an advanced computer programming language that isn't limited to the type of computer or for one specific job and is easily understood
FLOWCHART: it visually shows the sequence of instructions in a program with different symbols used to draw it

the beginning and ending symbols are normally ovals or rounded rectangles usually containing the word 'start' or 'end'
the decision making symbol is a diamond which normally have a 'yes or no' question in it
the action or process symbol is a rectangle with the command in it (eg. save changes)

here are the steps to opening a door: walk towards the door and stop one step away facing the door, raise arm and grip doorknob, turn doorknob anticlockwise and push open.

FINALLY WE'RE FINISHED !!!

it took so long for me to do because my computer at home is soooooo slow but it's done. it was hard to find the right information without the technical bumbo jumbo but with the right website (eg. common craft) it made it simpler.
we chose scrapblog because it's fun to personalise which should thearetically gain the viewers attention and it's really easy to use (adding text, video, pictures) and to navigate for the viewer because you click on the next arrow.
here is the link for our fabulous scrapblog:

New Info

sir told us that instead of linking our different books we can just add a new page from the other person's book. we just have to have the same account. this makes the assignment easier (only a little bit though).

a cool website

Belina told me about a website with a whole heap of the videos in plain english. it's really helpful.
here is the URL:
http://www.commoncraft.com/
sorry if the link doesn't work.

extra things i can type about

during class sir was really helpful by telling us some extra things we can research for certain topics for the assignment. I've only typed down what is relevant to me or else I'll be here forever. for WiFi type about the different standards eg. 802.11 a, b, g, n and the speed (Mb/s) and range (m) of each, how you lock it and the rooter.
for handheld devices type about how the CPU is slow because the fast ones are power hungry and heat up a lot. type about the RAM, different user-interfaces (touch screen, mini keyboard or normal keys), LCD display and resolution.
for social networking type about how you exchange information setup with a network of friends any time any where because it's now on mobiles and how it makes it easier for robbers to rob you because they know that you're away.

A Problem With Scrap Blog

if I'm working on scrap blog at the same time as Laura and my page 2 is blank and her page 1 is blank and if Laura publishes last then the page 1 will become blank because it over-rides. as sir suggested we are going to have 2 separate scrap blogs with the one account and have a page full of links which link to pages on one person's scrap blog and the partner's scrap blog as well.

CPU or microprocessor

a CPU is a complete computer engine on a single chip, it's where the calculations take place. the first CPU was called the Intel 4004 and it was introduced in 1971.
The speed of the CPU has increased dramatically. in 1974 the clock speed was 2 MHz which is 2 million cycles per second and in 2004 the clock speed increased to 3.6 GHz which is 3.6 billion cycles per second.
according to dictionary.com MIP's measure the computer and is 1 million instructoins per second.
a duel core processor is a CPU that has 2 execution cores with one chip. multitasking is when you have different programmes running at the same time. a duel core processor is really good for multitasking because each of the execution cores are independent so the operating system has enough resources to handle the different tasks.
the Intel Atom Processor uses less power, is really small but it allows a "big internet experience" which is good for people who use their mobile phones to go on the internet unlike the traditional way of using the computer.

The things Laura and I are Researching

Out of the blue, Laura is doing number one which is computer displays and I am doing number six which is handheld multimedia devices. Out of the pink, Laura is doing number seven which is piracy and copyright while I am doing number nine which is social networking. Out of the yellow, Laura is doing number sixteen which is types of ports and I am doing number fourteen which is graphics cards. Out of the green, Laura is doing number eighteen which is blue tooth while I am doing number twenty which is wifi.
Also Laura and I have chosen to use scrap blog for our assignment because it's easy to use and easy to personalise.

Research for ZoHo notebook

positives are that it's very easy to add videos, audio, images, text, all that stuff. it's free, there's a good menu system with the different pages which you can title easily and you can change the title of the whole book, we can both sign in and edit at the same time and you can publish it easily. on the bad side you can't personalise it very much/ make it fancy. here is a screen shot:

Friday, July 31, 2009

Research on Pageflakes

well a flake is a application that you drag onto your page to personalise it. some flakes i've got are a mini blog, word of the day, sticky note and horoscope. here is a screen shot:
some positives about pageflakes are that both Laura and I are able to login on seperate computers, we can type information up easily, it's free, it's very straight forward, there are a large number of flakes we can use to personalise and present the information and we can create different pages to organise and store the different types of information we are presenting. some things that are negative about the page is that we can't figure out how to put videos on it, we can't put the flakes anywhere we want on the page (it's all in columns and rows) and if you use the blog flake it only shows part of the information and you have to click on a button to be able to read all of the information.

according to the website a pagecast is publishing your page flake so others can see it and you can show everyone or just a private group.

we could use the pagecast in the context of this project to inform everybody and sir about the topics we are going to research.

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Research for Protopage

flakes have to be columns but when you're using protopage you can change the settings so you can put the widget anywhere you want.

a widget is an application that you put on your page to make it personalised. the purpose of the tabs is to separate the different bits of information and widgets from each other. to create and edit new tabs is really easy, even i can do it without asking anyone how to do it.
Protopage could be used to help with our project because we could create a new tab for each topic and write the information in sticky notes. we are able to add photos but i haven't figured out how to add video or audio yet.

here is a screen shot:

Some positives are that it's free, there are tabs that allow us to organise the information in a menu type thing, there are different ways to type up the information, it's personalised easily, we can change the title of the tabs and sticky notes and you can add text underneath pictures to explain what it is. some negatives are that i can't figure out how to add video and when Laura and i tried to see if we can both log in at the same time Laura couldn't get on and when i tried at home i also couldn't get on so i think we have to be logged onto the computer at school using my username and password to work on the page (although I'm not positive).

The World Of Multimedia

Some examples where i use multimedia in my life are my ipod, texting, you tube, TV, mobile phone and the computer.

My ipod/itunes would be the hardest to give up because i love my music and i'm always listening to it. My life would be so boring without it.

I think the technology in the video might eventually come true but not exactly like the video. the technology in the video makes it easier to share information and to socialise however i think that it might make us dependent on it so if didn't have the technology we wouldn't be able to socialise at all.

RSS...

A RSS stands for a Really Simple Syndication and it's a format for spreading news and other web stuff. When you put whatever you want to send into a RSS and send it to someone else or their website, it's called a feed.
You can add a whole heap of stuff to a feed and each feed contains a list of items (an index) and each one is identified by a link to the content of your website. Most RSS feeds include a title for the link and a description of the content.
RSS feeds keep your audience totally updated without having to actually go to your site, for example, in a software company's website people can miss out on important tech articles or updates if they forget to check it but by feeding it to them they won't miss out.
Feeds are different from email because it's more like a link to your website but it also has a description to get people to want to read it.
Reading feeds is similar to using a radio, the station sends out programmes and you use the radio to pick it up at home. With RSS you send out your content in a RSS feed and subscribers use a newsreader to read it.
You can find the feeds you want to subscribe to by setting you reader with your preferences and it will collect the feeds you're interested in every time there is an update.

synopsis

it's going to be really funny news segments including the weather, sports and recent events. this video is aimed at people our age (14-15 years old) and was created to entertain and make people laugh.
there will be opening credits with photos of Laura and Michaela with their names on the screen. there might be some music to go in the background. there will also be a reenactment of the cadbury eyebrow ad.

what are storyboards?

1. storyboards are arranged to represent the events of a story which will be filmed
2. a storyboard acts as a visual script for lighting, camera angles and most importantly the narrative development or in other words, how the story goes
3.if a storyboard isn't with a script then it's harder to picture how the film will flow and because it's in written form then you could misinterpret the descriptions and film it completely wrong
4.the main type of storyboard is the Production Storyboard
5.the painting storyboard is a sequence of images to show the visual style of what you're filming
6.TV storyboards are filmed and produced by advertising agencies for their clients
7.the narrative elements of the story in the film are the characters, settings, conflicts and the resolution.
8-10.to make a film more interesting the people making it break it into different parts and these parts are called moments. the moments are categorised as atmospheric, narrative and critical. this is an important storyboarding tool because not all events are critical but are needed to help with the narrative or atmosphere
11.an establishing shot is used to establish the setting or atmosphere of the scene, it's all in the name
12.a mid shot is used to focus on a person because it's from head to toe
13.a low angle shot is shot lower than eye level and makes the subject look bigger and more powerful while a high angle shot is shot higher than eye level and makes the subject look smaller
14.to start a storyboard you need to come up with a narrative
15. next you break up the plot into moments then scenes then shots
16. next you pencil in the scenes ans shots
17.when you analyse it you look for mise en scene, montage or camera angles that will help to enhance the scene
18.when you 'flesh out the scene' you add digital photos, clip art or drawings and add more detail to the shot description

broadband questions

1.broadband is and internet connection which is typically faster than dial up.
2.bandwidth and transfer speed are quoted in 2 different units: kilobits per second, abbreviated to kbps and kilobytes per second, abbreviated to KB/s.
3.most broadband is at least 4 times faster than dial up.
4.broadband services typically operate at a maximum speed of 1.5 megabits and dial up services typically at a maximum speed of 56 kbps.
5.broadband is better to download a video than dial up because it has higher bandwidth.
6.the wider the pipe the more water can get through to fill the pool but the speed the water travels doesn't change just the amount able to get through. therefore the higher the bandwidth the more data able to get through and the faster the download. ta da, my awesome explanation!

i know that i didn't do the statistics part of it but i'll do it in another blog later because i really want to post this so it's over and done with.

short video differences

Video Pocket For PC (218 kbps)
bit rate- 218KB
display size- 208x160 pixels
frames per second- 20
space required- 532 KB

High Quality Video (Small)
bit rate- variable
display size- 320x240 pixels
frames per second- 25
space required- will vary based on content

High Quality Video (Large)
bit rate- variable
display size- 640x480 pixels
frames per second- 25
space required- will vary based on content

dv-avi (pal)
bit rate- 30 mbps
display size- 720x576 pixels
frames per second- 25
space required- 71.25 Mb

Okay well... i saved the video as dial up and IDSN. they both are equally bad and i can't spot a real difference between them. theoretically IDSN should be better because it's saved as 131Kb and dial up is saved as 107Kb but that's not much of a difference either so we can't really tell the difference.

well i don't know if im supposed to write about the narrarated slide show but i will because i nothing better to do and it actually makes me look like im doing something. well it's basically the same as a normal slideshow but with one fundimental difference: it's narrarated. wow.... anyways, you plug in the microphone and go onto movie maker. you put your images together and click the image of the microphone then record what you want to say about the images. you drag it to the timeline and save it as a movie. here is my movie.

My Movie With Audio

Last night i was looking up at the stars thinking 'where the heck is my ceiling'. i got that off photo bucket, funny icons. you people should check it out. anyways here is my fantastic *cough* movie

i had to got to google images and save the pictures in my s drive but i was saving them on my USB because that's where i save everything. so i couldn't get my pictures to show while the movie was playing so with LAura's advice i saved it on my s drive. to get the pictures on movie maker you just go to import pictures and import them. you drag the pictures to the story board squares and there we go you have your images for your so called movie. you then have to impoirt your audio and then you drag it to the timeline. to adjust how long you want the pictures to show for you drag the side of the picture left or right depending on how long it'd supposed to show for. to adjust how much of the audio you want to play, you drag the side of the audio and it trims the parts you don't want. to do the adjusting i did it in the timeline form. it's all really straight forward because even i could use it and i've only ever used it once.

ringtone

well i imported the song breakeven by the script onto audacity and selected the part i wanted to use then i trimmed out the rest. i went into the equalization and did the funky thing with the line like the instructions said but it didn't sound any different which is what it's supposed to sound like so i guess i did it right. after that i did the compression thing by moving the bar across depending on what the instructions said. i exported it as an mp3 (i think) then i imported it onto movie maker and saved it as an wmv. i now have to upload it to my blog but last time it didn't work so im crossing my fingers. now here it is: hmmmm... it won't upload, stupid computer. ah, you see, well you need to have a picture with the audio so you can save it as a movie and upload it to blogger so excuse the picture but it was the first one i found and i was experimenting anyways when i uploaded the ringtone it sounded distorted like i was listening to it on a really bad radio signal, i don't know why and i can't fix it. stupid computer!

Intro To Video

1. well i think that we used to use the file format, analog before we switched to digital

2. analog recording has reading signals directly onto a medium (tape) with a magnetic encoding but with digital it encodes the signals into a numeric string of digits.

3. with digital video you can edit and stuff much more easily then with analog because with analog you would have to start from scratch to add something in.

4. in video the frame rate is the number of frames shown per second. in the movies they use a frame rate of 24 frames per second.

5. not all applications use the same frame rate, for example, if the video is going to be shown on the web, CD-Rom or on a normal analog tape then you will have 3 different frame rates and 3 different resolutions. this is because in digital video the faster the frame rate and the higher the resolution determines how much data needs to be transmitted and stored in order to view your video.

6. resolution is the number of pixels (dots on the screen), it's measured as the number of horizontal pixels times the number of vertical pixels (eg. 680x 750)

7. The RGB colour system stands for red, green, blue. our monitors show us RGB colour and each pixel is the product of light coming from a red, green and a blue thingy which are placed really close together and because they're placed so close together our eyes blend the primary colours together and we see them as a single coloured dot. if you put your eye really close to the screen then you might see the following illustration

8. there are 3 different TV standards around the world and the standard you receive depends on the country you're living in. the USA, Canada, Japan, Korea and Mexico use the format NTSC and the frame rate is 29.97 frames/sec. Australia, China, most of Europe and South America use the format PAL and the frame rate is 25 frames/sec. France, the Middle East and most of Africa use the format SECAM and the frame rate is 25 frames/sec. sooo basically the main difference is the quality of the resolution and the frame rate.

9. us Aussies use the format PAL which may i remind you is a frame rate of 25 frames/sec.

10. if you're recording with an analog camcorder then you will need a video capture card to digitalize it.

11. we won't need a video capture card for the video we are making at school because it will already be digital to begin with.

12. an IEEE 1394 is the connection between your digital camcorder and your computer when you feed the video onto the computer after shooting it.

13. digital video cameras use video compression because when it's uncompressed it's an enormous amount of data and when viewing/editing it, it would slow down your computer a lot.

14. a codec handles the compression and decompression of video. they can be found in hardware like capture cards or in software.

15. generation loss is when the quality gets worse and worse as you copy or transfer. sir explained it this way : if you photocopy something it's not quite as good quality as the original and if you photocopy that photocopy then the quality will be even worse and if you keep photocopying every photocopy then you will probably end up with a big blob that doesn't really look like anything. the way i explained it, it probably doesn't make sense but anyways.....

animation !!!!

well i uploaded it to photo bucket and now hoefully here is my animation. i wouldn't trust my computer skills so don't hold your breath. YESSS IT WORKED IM SO SMART.

PROBLEM !!!

hmmm.... it doesn't seem to be working right now. i can't get it to play even if i click on it. i should try to do that photobucket thingy.

6th post for assignment

i uploaded gimp which is pretty straight forward but i still didn't know how to do it and my brother had to do it for me. well i did that thing how you load it onto gimp and save it as an animated gif. it worked! im so happy with myself but my animation isn't all that good compared to other people's but im happy with what i did because im computer illiterate (not good at computers). well here is my fantastic *cough* animation:

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

the 5th post for assignment (i think)

well when i put my frames into gimp i found out that they're transparent which is not good. apparently. it was also going backwards. i now have to go through every single frame and right click and go to the 'go to' then go to paint and then save it from paint. it's going to be quite tedious.
the frames are also supposed to be png when you load it onto gimp because apparently it doesn't load or something when it's png but because im soooooo special it worked for me.

4th blog for assignment

well i spent forever to try and make my pig walk which might seem easy to you but my pig has to knees so he has to waddle which looks really weird. anyways i ended up just letting him waddle. it's impossible to make him walk properly. when my pig waddles the animation isn't very smooth but after he turns into a super pig it's pretty smooth, if i do say so myself.
i decided to make him turn into a super pig and fly into the wall. i've got around 80-90 frames and sir said that we need a minimum of 50 frames for the minimum 5 seconds which is fine by me.
i love using these graphics tablets because i reckon it's easier to use especially for the details.
i thought my computer died on me at the beginning of the lesson but the screen and keyboard cables had just come out. it was pretty funny afterwards.

carry on for 3rd blog

i just deleted my frames meaning to start again but i forgot to open the last frame i had of my pig so i could start again so i need to wait until i get to school so i can get the last frame from my s drive. arrrggghh, im so stupid sometimes!

3rd post for assignment

i asked sir why i couldn't move my pig when i opened it or imported it and it's really simple. i saved my images as png not svg. you can't change png files but you can with svg.i realised after about 10 frames that im not making enough to make it run smoothly so im going to redo it now. and save it as svg not png. did you know that i drew my fabulous pig and my creation processes is that i move my pig a tiny bit then export my frame as.... svg now that i know of my mistake. i move my pig a little bit more then export again and keep repeating it over and over and over and over and over. it's pretty boring after a while. no offense Mr Lennon and other IST teachers. my frame rate im aiming for is around at least 20 frames per second because i think that's what a good animation frame rate is, im not positive though. i better get on with the animation then. bye...

2nd blog for assignment

well i spent about 10 minutes of precious lesson time creating a folder on my usb and saving all my frames and stuff onto it and when i got home i realised that i couldn't move my pig when i opened the frame or imported it. i spent like nearly half an hour trying to move it but it was futile. i am going to ask sir how to move it. i wonder if we have to do all the tasks because i will NEVER finish it in time. here is a picture of my pig. i thought everyone would like to see who he is. ta da isn't he fabulous.

1st blog for assignment

well i chose to use inkscape because i find inkscape easier to use and i know how to actually make the frames (in gimp i didn't really follow the whole duplicate frame thing). I've also had practice so i know what I'm doing.
well i did a rough animation using inkscape but i didn't know how to turn it into an animation using gimp but then sir told us that it was on general help so I'm alright now.
my animation is going to be a pig who walks onto the screen tries to bend over to pick up a ball but he realises that he can't reach it and gets angry at himself.
during the development of the frames i saved it as png and i still saved it as png after i exported it.
well I'm off to actually make my animation right now. bye...

olympic rings task

well i decided to use paint because you can actually do the rings properly and on word you can draw the rings but you can't get the rings to interlock. i didn't know how to make the lines thicker so i zoomed in and painted it thicker with the paint brush. i also painted over the other rings to make it look interlocked. im so smart, yeah right. i also tried to do it on word but failed miserably. the rings just wouln't interlock no matter what i tried so i gave up.

here is my beautiful piece of artwork.

gingerbread man task

well i had no idea you could do this type of stuff on word but through this subject im literally learning new things every lesson.

anyways..... i used the basic shapes to draw the man and the box but i used the block arrows to create arrows. kinda obvious right. i selected the box and clicked 3-d style which made it 3-d. it's pretty much self explanatory. i added a speech bubble and stuck with the environmental, recycling theme and blah, blah, blah. you get the idea. i coloured it in and hey presto I've created my own gingerbread man. here is the final product. i know that you can't read the writing but i couldn't be bothered to change the size of the writing. any who... it says 'Hello, I'm cylinder man. Always recycle because it's good for the environment.' it's lame i know but i didn't know what else to write.

8 of clubs task

well under the instruction of mr lennon i set the attributes to 6 by 10 cm so that my 'canvas' is 6 by 10 cm. anyways, i did that shift and eclipse thing to make a perfect circle and i lined up 3 and used the straight line thing to make the triangle at the bottom.
i used select and copy and pasted 2 more identical clubs and lined them up according to where they're supposed to go on the card. i copy and pasted another and then went to image and clicked flip and guess what, it flipped! i copy and pasted 4 more and lined those up to where they're supposed to go on the card.
THEN i put a text box in the corners where the number 8 is supposed to go but the number wasn't coming up and i was freaking out, but as Michelle pointed out the colour was on white (who knows why). anyway, i put it on black and typed 8 into the text box. saved. now im typing up my blog for this task. oh yeah i also saved it. yeah i know im typing about nothing but im trying to it look like im actually doing something important.

here is my beautiful 8 of clubs (don't dis me okay i suck at computers)yeah i know there's no border but it didn't come up when i uploaded the image. probably because i forgot to make a border when i was drawing the card but who cares.
the file size for the monochrome thingy is 7.56 KB and the file size for the 24-bit bitmap is 180 KB.
there's a difference in the file size because each colour has a certain number of bits and when you save it in monochrome there's only 2 colours used therefore there's less bits used. i don't think there's a difference in image quality, if i hadn't named them differently i wouldn't have been to tell them apart.

i know that im a boring bloger but i can't be bothered to make them interesting like sabine.

PAINTING TOOLS

i was going to use gimp but it took me like 10 minutes to figure out how to get a blank page so i gave up on that. now i have to do paint which is really boring but at least i know how to use it. below is an image of paint and i am going to explain what each tool does.

i had sooooo much trouble getting the picture on it took me around 15 minutes and Michelle comes and does it in like 2 seconds. life saver! any ways back to the task.

the dotted rectangle on the top right corner is called 'select'. you can move a square of an original image around the page or delete it. (im not sure how to explain it)

the dotted star next to the rectangle is called 'free-form select'. it's like select but instead of moving a square you can move a random shape but while you're drawing the shape you have to keep the mouse button down.

the yellow rectangle below it is the 'eraser'. it's what you use when you want to rub something out. like the name suggests. (it's kinda obvious)

the thing to the right of it is called 'fill with colour'. if you have a shape without any gaps in the outline you can fill it with a certain colour with one click of the mouse. it's really simple.

the mini magnifying glass symbol is called 'magnifier'. it's pretty obvious because it zooms in and out.

next to the magnifier is a symbol that looks like an eye dropper but it's actually called 'pick colour'. if you click on a certain colour the 'fill with colour' changes automatically to that colour you clicked on. (i never knew what it did before this task)

below it is a pencil and you guessed it, it's called a 'pencil'. WOW! anyways you can draw lines with this but it's not as cool as the 'brush' but i'll explain the 'brush' later.

next to the pencil is the 'brush'. it's nearly the same as the pencil but you can change the thickness of the lines and whether the line is a circle or a square. however like the pencil you can change the colour of the lines.

below the 'brush' is a picture of a 'A' and this is called 'text'. you can draw a square or rectangle and then type some text in side it.

next to it is a picture of a spray can but it's called 'airbrush'. it's kinda like a spray can because the lines can be faint but if you leave the mouse in the exact same position it makes it solid. (arghhh... this is so hard to explain but im sure you know what im talking about, this is paint im typeing about here.)

below it is a diagonal line which is called 'line'. this tool helps you to draw a straight line which you change the colour of and the thickness. just a little obvious.

next to it is a squiggly line called 'curve'. it's basically the same as 'line' but you can curve it. it really annoys me when you don't want it to curve but it does anyway. has that ever happened to you because it REALLY annoys me.

there are 4 more random, useless tools that i can't be bothered to explain because no one even uses them and i doubt anyone wants to keep reading my boring blog. so im off to do my stupid english homework. YAY! i just love english, not. bye...

Is Digital Art Real Art? Hmmm...

Well here are some definitions of art:
  • the products of human creativity
  • the creation of beautiful or significant things
is digital art a valid form of art? i have no idea! well, you have some creepy people who say that photos of naked kids is art but that's just them. on one hand digital art is still technically art because it's a product of human creativity and it's also the creation of something beautiful. it can have a meaning, theme and other random stuff art is supposed to have. on the other hand it's kind of cheating because in some programmes there are certain icons/pictures downloaded on it, and all you have to do click on where you want it to go. there are also artists who draw it by hand and scan it onto thier computer to digitalise it.

i don't really know if there are any advantages to using digital paint and draw programmes. some people can't draw so they probably think that it's easier to use these programmes because of the pre-programmed icons/pictures that you can alter with a click of a button. i think that to us people who totally suck at using the computer even for basic stuff, that the programmes are frustrating because you can't get the computer to do the things you want it to do. (i tend to just give up and do it by hand because it's easier). when you use the paint and draw programmes it's easier to erase any mistakes you make but if you are using paint and canvas you can't just erase it because it's almost, maybe, basically permanent. wait that's an advantage so i guess that there is an advantage.
here are some cool artworks i found on google and sticking with the theme of digital they are all digital.

to be a digital artist you don't really need any special skills just creativity and some good software. the hardest part is learning how to use the software. some people believe that graphic programmes are destroying traditional art skills, because by using graphics software use don't need any painting or sketching skills. people who use these graphics softwares are saying that this is another case of technophobia.
Some artists just draw it by hand and scan it onto thier computer to digitalise.
people who are digital artists sometimes take classes in painting and sketching to improve thier artistic skills (whatever there are these days). For example,
a man named Joel Mongeon, who is a digital artist, wanted to "hone" (improve) his skills so he took up some painting and sketching classes at his university.

Digital Media Explanations

The definition of Digital is the representation of information in binary (1's and 0's)
Some different types of digital media are:
  • digital videos
  • digital audio
  • Digital phone calls
  • digital photoes
  • digital televison

The number system digital data is based on is the binary numeral system and the numbers used in this system are 1 and 0. The binary numeral system is a way to write lot's of different numbers using only 2 digits. Here are some examples:

1. 1

2. 10

3. 11

4. 100

5. 101

A bit is the smallest unit of information a computer can use. A group of 8 bits is called a byte.

A sampling rate is also called a sample rate. It's typically expressed in samples per second, the rate at which samples of an analog signal are taken to be converted into digital form. For example, a PC's sound card will sample a recieved analog signal, like through a microphone, and digitalise it for the computer. The higher the sampling rate the better the reproduction.

Colour depth is how many colours the monitor can display. The higher the colour depth (or the greater number of colours shown) the better the image quality will be because it will look more realistic and detailed.

This picture shows the difference in colour depth.

The sampling rate only affects video not still media (like photos) because still media doesn't involve sound. It's just like that colour depth doesn't affect the music you listen to because there's no pictures involved in music.
